A new organisation, the Invest in Nottingham Club, has been set up to advocate Nottingham’s strengths as a business location. All members are expected to act as envoys for the city and help attract more investors.
Launched at Experian’s Landmark House, the Invest in Nottingham Club has developed out of the success of the three Invest in Nottingham days, held in London and Nottingham this year and last. The events showed that public and private sectors working together could bring new business to the city. But, in the new era of public sector austerity that has developed since the first event took place in 2009, it also became apparent that private sector energy, creativity and nouse had to be mobilised to fight Nottingham’s corner, and especially as the regional and international bidding for new investment became ever more competitive.
The message at the inaugural meeting of the Invest in Nottingham Club was: ‘no passengers!’ The new organisation – supported by Invest in Nottingham, the city’s inward investment team – has set itself the serious, hard-headed task of attracting new business to the Nottingham area. Every member is expected to play a part in that by actively seeking out new investors among their friends and clients, and by supporting visits by other investors. Effectively, club members will co-operate to present a package of hospitality and information that ‘sells’ Nottingham to visiting investors as the ideal location to live, work and play.
Key speakers included Jane Todd, Chief Executive of Nottingham City Council, Mick Burrows, Chief Executive Nottinghamshire County Council, Roger Summerton, chairman of Nottingham Development Enterprise, Malcolm Pheby, Editor of Nottingham Post, Nigel Wilson, Managing Director of Marketing and Information Services Experian, Jim Taylor, Planning and Regeneration consultant for Nottingham Development Enterprise and Lorraine Baggs, Inward Investment Manager.
Over 60 companies have already joined this new initiative – to find out more visit www.investinnottinghamclub.

Councillor Jon Collins, leader of Nottingham City Council, arrived in Cannes on Tuesday 16th March following a gruelling 2000km cycle ride from Nottingham. He was near the front of an 80 strong riding party welcomed into the city by London Mayor Boris Johnson, as well the rest of Team Nottingham.
Councillor Collins set off from Nottingham’s Old Market Square on Tuesday March 9 along with ‘Team Invest in Nottingham‘ partner and Head of Urban Design Nigel Turpin- taking just six days to complete the mammoth journey.
In addition to generating substantial interest in the City of Nottingham during the world’s biggest property investment show, le marche international des professionnels de l’imobilier (MIPIM), team Invest in Nottingham peddled in aid of cancer support charity Maggie’s, and in particular for its appeal to raise £3million to open a care centre in Nottingham.
Shortly after arriving in Cannes a slightly saddle sore Councillor Collins commented: ‘This is without a doubt one of the most physically challenging things I have ever participated in, but it was worth all of the blood, sweat and tears now that we’re here and flying the flag for the city of Nottingham.
‘We’re aiming to raise enough money to enable the building project for the new Maggie’s cancer ward at the City Hospital to get under way, as well as highlighting Nottingham’s credentials as a primary location for investment to multinational organisations with money to spend.’
Team Nottingham’s main objectives will be to promote the six premium city centre sites that will become available when Nottingham City Council relocates all of its departments to Loxley House, as well as five major schemes currently under development or in planning stages in Nottingham’s exciting new business district, Southside.
So far Team Invest in Nottingham has raised almost £1,200, but is keen to raise even more. To show your support, visit

Team Invest in Nottingham will complete the final stages of their charity cycle ride today. They have promised to carry the baton over the finish line and are looking forward to seeing the rest of the team and carrying on with ‘Business as usual’.
Yesterday both Jon and Nigel completed the set five stages (166 miles) reaching speeds of up to 30 KM an hour. The route yesterday was very hilly and the cyclists had to endure harsh side winds.
The harsh weather conditions caused one of the riders to end up in a ditch but Jon and Nigel held on to their bikes and carried on pedalling. There have been a couple of retirements through injury but approximately 80 of the 85 riders aim to complete the race.
During their journey Councillor Jon Collins was greeted by the major of Vanbey who kindly served him and Nigel tea, coffee and biscuits.
When asked to sum up the whole experience Councillor Collins remarked: “The charity cycle race has been a fantastic way to see France and will be unrelenting by the end. Both Nigel and I have cycled over 1000 miles in only 8 days and raised almost £1200 for Maggies Cancer Charity, which is a massive achievement. We aim to raise further funds for the charity during our time at MIPIM and look forward to donating the cheque to this worthy local cause.”
Team Invest in Nottingham would also like to thank Raleigh for their support and for supplying energy bars and gels for the route.
We wish team Invest in Nottingham the best of luck for the remainder of the route.
